Joints are among the most vulnerable parts of a doll during storage. The key is to minimize stress, maintain natural alignment, and prevent deformation over time. Start by loosening tension on any fixed joints to avoid it being forced into an extreme angle under pressure. If the model uses articulated joints, store with joints in a neutral, natural position to reduce strain.
Support joints with soft, non-abrasive padding. Use wrap-style sleeves or foam inserts to cushion elbows, knees, shoulders, and hips. When possible, store dolls on their backs with limbs gently spread to an even distribution, avoiding hyperextension that could stretch or tear soft materials.
Regular checks matter. Inspect joints for signs of stress, stiffness, or creases during routine cleaning and repacking. If you observe any abnormal resistance, release and reposition gradually and re-pad as needed. For long-term storage, consider rotating positions every few months to distribute wear evenly.
Temperature and humidity control help joints stay supple. Keep the storage area away from direct heat sources and prevent prolonged exposure to extreme temperatures. With proper alignment, padding, and routine checks, you can preserve joint integrity and extend the life of the doll.
